Beryl

I just found desktop effects…

What an awesome, I really think that we should be trying to get the fact that you can make your PC look pretty without paying in as many PC magazines as possible. So many reviews I’ve read of Vista have been “this is stable, yes it’s expensive, BUT LOOK AT THE GRAPHICS!!!!”.

Anyway, just thought I’d let you know how happy I am about Beryl. Yeah, it doesn’t require hyper hardware like vista do. I have three OS installed on my PC. XP, Vista and Linux-Ubuntu. I use Linux for my exam project, XP for daily use and Vista for testing the Aero Style. And because there still few of software compatible with Vista.

But the purpose change, after i use Beryl on my Linux desktop. Now i use Linux for daily use, XP for gaming, and Vista just for showing my friend WTF Vista looks like. Yeah, i know its all just to make my desktop look pretty. Compare Beryl with Vista Aero? No way, Beryl is more better. Try it your self. Heres some screenshot.

beauty is in the eye of beholder…

I think the Linux desktop toward to the right directions, although it’s like mimicking the mac camp, but sometime the technology reinventing the wheel by it self, right?!

    usefulness? that’s another story…

like, does vista more useful than XP? or even the other OS?

    Let the user decide…

but in my experiences (spending three weeks with vista), if i should stick with MS OS, I’ll stick with XP for the time being, for eye candy can be added… somehow…

ps: still eager to wait compiz fusion

    mettise, well…

i’ve heard once and see the video running on mandrake but never get my hand on it (just yet)…

maybe because it’s not “marketized” as much as compiz/beryl ?!

all in all, it’s good to see the evolve of linux desktop…

I just hope that the eye candy not just the eye candy, but also bring the “user friendliness”

PCLinuxOS 2007 has Beryl. Coming from slow, crashing and boring Vista this distro worked out of the box and made me continue my work within 45 minutes. Certainly recommended, it has a LiveCD to try it out.
