Install Flash Lite Menu

Flash Lite Menu

Few days ago after bought SE handset, i found some cool themes that use adobe-flash as the media of main menu. I try to find out how to create/use/upload/install that to my handset. After some trial and error, finally i successfully upload/install flash lite menu to my handset. There have been quite a few finished flash lite menus circulating the internet which are quite impressive. Here's a quick run down on how to implement them into your Sony Ericsson flash lite enabled phone, since you need to associate them with a theme file. Tested on SE w850 (CID 52) with XS++ v1.6.8, hope it works with other SE Handsets.

In order to implement flash lite menus, your phone MUST support flash lite applications and it MUST be enabled. To find out if your phone supports Flash Lite, please go here. I am NOT liable for any damage this tutorial may have caused to your computer or your handsets.

1. Download XS++ v1.6.8 first.
2. Extract to a folder. In the XS++ folder, create two folders called "files_to_upload" and "own_custpack"
3. In folder "files_to_upload", create folder "tpa", in folder "tpa" create folder "preset", in "preset" create "system", in "system" create "desktop", in "desktop" create folder "flash", and in it put your flash menu. So, it should be like this

CODE:
  1. \files_to_upload\tpa\preset\system\desktop\flash\

4. Get some flash menu from here or here, and copy to "\files_to_upload\tpa\preset\system\desktop\flash\*.swf". Remember, just copy the .swf file.
5. Run XS++. Click Connect and plug the usb cable into the phone while holding the "c" button. Release the c button when XS++ indicates the phone is connected. You are now connected to the phone's subsystems.
6. The first thing is to select the access method. Generally use BreakSX as the way in. However, to select the way in, you will need to click into 'Flash' configuration, tick 'customize file system', and then go back to 'settings' and click BreakXS.
7. Click FSX: any files in the files_to_upload folder will be copied to the phone's internal file system when you click Start FSX.
8. Wait until XS++ says "Disconnected... Unplug the phone"

Done, now you have to do is modify the themes configuration.

1. Get some themes for your handset.
2. Rename file_name.thm to file_name.tar.
3. Extract the tar file and open the configuration file (file with xml extension).
4. Find this code

XML:
  1. <Sony_Ericsson_theme version="4.x">

and add this code after that

XML:
  1. <Desktop_style Type="File" Source="file_name.swf"/>

change file_name.swf with the file name of flash lite menu that you have upload before. Then save and close it.
5. Compress it to tar again. You can use power archive or tugzip. And change back the extension from .tar to .thm
6. Upload that themes to your handset and your done!!

Congrats.... ;)

when i renamed it back to .thm it was still recognized as a compressed tar file and so never showed up on the themes page. SO close!
